BOKO LOCO: VEGAN RESTAURANT IN LYON

BOKO LOCO: VEGAN RESTAURANT IN LYON

TRIED AND TESTED: BOKO LOCO, THE 100% VEGAN CANTEEN

This is an obvious observation. Around me, in restaurants, or with my friends, our eating habits are changing.
When I go to a party the vegetable pies, guacamole and vegan cakes invade the living room table.
In short, meat no longer reigns alone in the middle of the plate.

So… Why not test a new 100% vegan restaurant?

Little reminder :
Vegetarian or vegan cuisine, to put it simply, is cuisine without products from animal exploitation.
Zero meat, zero cheese, zero eggs, zero dairy.

MASON JAR MEALS

Generally, I am not too fan of this new trend, which on the aesthetic level, is rather snap. The bottom layer is usually crushed and softened by moisture and gives the texture of old porridge. And what's more, it's not practical to eat.
But it’s not the case here! The mason jars are super appetizing and the order of the layers well studied so that the crunchiness remains crisp, and the softness melts.

The starters are super fresh, and full of flavor. My friend decided to order 2 instead of the main dish: the chickpea jar, tomato and pana cota mint and peas.
She enjoyed it.
For my part, I preferred to try the Poke Bowl. Crisp, well-seasoned vegetables (carrot, white cabbage, soy, baby spinach), topped with spicy falafel sauce.
Even if the whole does not seem super rich, the falafels are doing their job and satisfied my hunger.
For dessert, it's the amazing avocado chocolate mousse that tickles my curiosity. The two flavors blend very well and prove to me that the use of double cream in desserts is not an obligation.

THE SETTING

The little "snack" side with a choice of jars in the fridge and trays to clear yourself could cool more than one. However, the setting is very warm. Especially the back room - with its beautiful blue wall and its golden stones - which is perfect for large tables.

VERDICT:

We really liked the fresh, beautiful, creative dishes tinged with Thai or oriental flavors.
The owners of the premises are very concerned about the origin of their products (organic or sustainable), as well as the sustainable aspect of the restaurant. Besides, their pretty jars can be reused or brought back to the restaurant in exchange for a credit.
The € 16.50 starter / main / dessert formula (without table service) may seem a bit expensive, but understandable given the quality of the products and the work done.
